In these times of constant change and uncertainty brought about with the onslaught of COVID-19, it’s more important than ever that business owners have a marketing mindset to sustain and continue to grow their business. So what is a marketing mindset?
Well, to start marketing is the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising. A mindset is defined as the established set of attitudes held by someone. A marketing mindset is often described as putting yourself in the customers’ shoes and trying to think like a customer.
So, how can you think like a customer? Consider these two ways:
- Imagine you are a customer that purchases the product or service that you sell.
- Imagine that you are a person that currently knows nothing about the product or service that you sell.
Then ask yourself…
- Why would you purchase this product or service?
- How does this product or service help you? Or how could this product or service help you?
- Does this product or service solve a problem for you that improves your company productivity, or increases revenue, or both?
- How is this product or service better than other products or services currently available?
- If it isn’t better than other products or services what could make it better?
These are just a few of the questions you can ask yourself in an effort to think like your customers and/or prospects. Another way to find out what they think is to simply ask them. You might send them a very short survey or you might inquire during or after a future interaction. However, you choose to do it the key is to implement a plan to use the information you identify about your customers to make their experience better. If their experience is already good it can still be better. So strive for excellence and have a marketing mindset while you’re doing it.
